Materials

Full-grain leather on the upper, the top layer of the hide, uncorrected and uncoated, so it takes on patina instead of cracking. Cherry-red soft-leather lining, edge to edge. Soft leather, not suede.

Construction

Goodyear-welted. The sole is stitched to the upper through a leather welt rather than glued, which is exactly what lets it be taken apart and resoled. Studded rubber outsole for grip on wet stone and city grit.

Heel and silhouette

Two inch stacked leather heel. Moc-toe. Side-zip and lace, so it is easy on and holds the ankle once it is on.

Care and resole

Wipe with a damp cloth and condition the leather now and then. When the outsole eventually wears, any quality cobbler can stitch on a fresh one. The collection is built to be repaired; Florence is the one made to be resoled again and again.

The make

You pay for the welt, not the logo.

The Florence is Goodyear-welted, the construction used in the finest dress shoes for over a century. The sole is stitched to the upper through a leather welt rather than glued.
